Belief is the oath of allegiance that scientists swear.
My mum always preferred the German word for Science: Wissenschaft. It means to acquire knowledge - wisdom. She felt that the word itself would change people’s behavior when approaching learning and gathering information.
This week there was a common theme in my surroundings: Scientific justification/evidence. While I am bridging the gap between spirituality and technology the same curious sceptical questions came up. And I understand it - it took me 10+ years to own my spirituality and to believe in the science of human design through empirical data and overlapping sources.
In this article, I’d like to provide more information on the foundational principles of human design theory and why I trust a system that hasn’t yet undergone rigorous scientific scrutiny or been put under the magnifying glass, as most would like.
But first: Whenever I lead calls or do archetypal discovery with my clients I ask them to put on their childlike-curiosity hat. Explore with an open mind and let the information come to you without judgment first, and analyze after.
The Story
Human Design came to Ra Uru Hu through a Voice in 1987 in Ibiza. It wasn’t actually Human Design, it was the Design of Forms. Meaning the Voice gave him an understanding of all living creatures residing on this planet. From single-cell organisms to horses to humans. Selfishly we are only interested in the Human Design aspect ;)
You might already shriek at the thought that this “science” is based on a voice that came to someone in Ibiza - however, I like the transparency much more than pretending this was something he discovered himself. We can all be aware that this is based on a mystical experience. A mystical experience, however, doesn’t automatically exclude a scientific foundation or potential validity.
Why is it called the Science of Differentiation?
It refers to the fact that we are all uniquely individual and by honoring and learning more about ourselves we can live a fully authentic life. It might seem at first we only fall into 4 categories, but by looking at each chart you’ll realize how incredibly different and nuanced each chart is, just like you are :)
The Making of The Atomic Bomb
It hasn’t been 100 years since the neutron was discovered. It was first theorized by Ernest Rutherford in 1920 and then discovered by Sir James Chadwick in 1932. This discovery opened up pathways to create the atomic bomb.
We are continuously discovering the rules of the world we live in while playing the game.
I am currently reading probably one of the greatest books ever written: The Making of the Atomic Bomb By Richard Rhodes. It’s mechanical, scientific, philosophical and spiritual. Already in chapter two, Rhodes establishes a foundation of what science really means through the lens of other incredible scientists like Michael Polanyi and Leo Szilard.
Below are some excerpts I’d like to highlight that coincide with the mentality I have with the science of Human Design:
Polanyi, a chemist at the University of Manchester and Oxford, became a philosopher of science and reflected:
[This] model of science is powerful in the same way successful scientific models are powerful: It explains relationships that have not been clear.
“Millions [$] are spent annually on the cultivation and dissemination of science by the public authorities,” Polanyi wrote once when he felt impatient with those who refused to understand his point, “who will not give a penny for the advancement of astrology or sorcery. In other words, our civilization is deeply committed to certain beliefs about the nature of things; beliefs which are different, for example, from those to which the early Egyptian or the Aztec civilization were committed.”
Becoming a scientist is necessarily an act of profound commitment to the scientific system and the scientific world view. “Any account of science which does not explicitly describe it as something we believe in is essentially incomplete and a false pretense. It amounts to a claim that science is essentially different from and superior to all human beliefs that are not scientific statements - and this is untrue.” Belief is the oath of allegiance that scientists swear.
The practice of science was not itself a science; it was an art, to be passed from master to apprentice as the art of painting is passed or as the skills and traditions of the law or of medicine are passed.
Belief
Much can be said about the power of belief, but what I'd like to emphasize is that we must recognize we are constantly operating from a foundation of belief. When you think your belief is the truth, it just highlights how strong your belief is. Science itself has become a cult that has used “logic” as the most noble way of thinking & being. Discovery is important and we need to understand that even during the discovery process we are under the spell of a belief that makes us go and find out in the first place. This is what highly regarded scientists knew and how they got to advance, win noble prizes, and shift paradigms for us to live in.
What is Human Design Based on
Neutrinos!
“Only 0.001% of neutrinos passing through Earth interact with it – making the chance of detecting a neutrino interaction in a particle detector on the order of one per trillion.”
We can all agree that just because we can't see something with our eyes or detect it with the advanced technology we have, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. There are beautiful limitations that we get to expand into and explore.
“Neutrinos are tiny subatomic particles, often called 'ghost particles' because they barely interact with anything else. Neutrinos are, however, the most common particle in the universe. Believe it or not, approximately 100 trillion neutrinos pass completely harmlessly through your body every second!”1
They were first discovered in 1956 in an experiment that went through various stages to ensure the detection of neutrinos.2
Ra Uru Hu published his view of the science of neutrinos and human design in 1991:
“Since Neutrinos have an infinitesimally small amount of mass, as the stream passes through us it leaves information. It is a stream of information, and within each of us exist particles that connect us to the stream. At the moment of birth, we are imprinted by the information carried by the neutrino stream via the planets. This imprint is reflected within your Human Design Chart, and determines your particular Design. This information provides us with the knowledge to understand our nature, potential, and forms of interaction.” 3
That is the basis of Human Design. And while you find many spiritual people proclaiming “We’re made of light”, Human Design is a step closer to giving that claim some sustenance.
You Get a Nobel Prize, and You Get a Nobel Prize
There have been several iterations of giving a Nobel Prize for the discovery of the neutrino over the last 30 years.
“It is perhaps a testament to their enduring fickleness and elusive nature that neutrinos have been central to four Nobel prizes. The first three (awarded in 1988 to Leon Lederman, Melvin Schwartz and Jack Steinberger, co-awarded in 1995 to Frederick Reines, and co-awarded in 2002 to Raymond Davis Jr) chart an impressive, albeit inevitably incomplete, path through the history of this area of particle physics. The latest one is guaranteed to bring neutrinos to the fore of the public's attention once again.”4
The latest novel prize in physics was awarded in 2015 to Takaaki Kajita and Arthur B. McDonald, for showing that neutrinos have mass.
According to Ra Uru Hu, the Voice conveyed that the mass of the neutrino carries information imprinted on us at birth.
Who Gets To Have Opinions
With everything said so far it begs the question: Who gets to assess the validity of Human Design?
Similarly to other scientific fields no one ruler gives a thumbs up or down, it is the peers within the field that help to validate.
In the book, Rhodes describes the process of a scientific network that “is the seat of scientific opinion". Polanyi emphasized, “of an opinion which is not held by any single human brain, but which, split into thousands of different fragments, is held by a multitude of individuals, each of whom endorses the other’s opinion at second hand, by relying on the consensual chains which link him to all the others through a sequence of overlapping neighborhoods.”
Am I comparing Human Design to the making of an atomic bomb? Not directly. I'm comparing the discovery process: hypothesis first, then experimentation. When society is invested in a discovery, like the Manhattan Project, we allocate vast resources to it. However, skepticism about spirituality prevents many from exploring it fully. As a result, we rely on personal experiences and shared stories. I believe we're getting closer to identifying the metrics and variables for Human Design, but understanding neutrinos is still in its infancy.
Time and Dedication to Gather Evidence
Even in startup-land, we differentiate between the early adopters and customers. It’s like you have a secret - a hypothesis if you will and you are letting more people into your secret and have them part of the journey of discovery. From investors to early adopters to team members: It all comes from a belief that there is more to discover and create - together.
The Best Approach
Trust yourself and gather empirical data. You forget that you are a conduit for discovery, especially when it comes to self-discovery and understanding.
We need to learn to trust ourselves, not what other people, models, or society tell us. Go out to find out for yourself. If there is skepticism this shows you that there are unknowns for you to learn - how exciting!
Trust yourself to conduct the experiment and gather your data. Don’t trust me, human design, or science to tell you what to do or how to feel about something.
Below are different types of data you can collect:
Empirical
Theoretical
Qualitative
Quantitative
Experimental
Observational
So what Am I Doing To Help Gather More Scientific Data?
My hypothesis is if people lived according to their design they would live a life in flow and harmony. Human Design gives practical personalized steps to follow the theory and gather empirical evidence, through your actions.
My handcrafting experience has been with entrepreneurs and passionate creatives through readings and receiving qualitative data back from them. They have increased their productivity among their team members and understand everyone’s zone of genius to operate under. They delegate tasks according to each team member’s human design profile.
My goal: To have more entrepreneurs & creatives enter the experiment with me, and help me gather & track the data so we can build a technology that can give real-time, personalized, and actionable insights on how to live in optimal productive flow moment by moment.

I hope this article offers a new perspective on how to view the scientific process and understand the principles upon which human design is modeled. I hope this opens up a new world of self-discovery that is empowering.
Lots of Love,
Lisa
